Mindfulness: loving myself in order to love others

Emotions are an integral part of the human experience. They play a crucial role in our lives and relationships, and frequently influence our decisions.

In this four-week course, we will concentrate on how to connect with our whole selves by paying attention to our minds, bodies, and emotions. We will come to terms with everything that makes us complete as human beings, and we will develop the skills necessary to manage, rather than suppress, the events of our daily existence. Always placing self-care first, mindful that in order to care for others, we must first care for ourselves.

We will learn to stop and observe what is truly present before acting, and we will learn to deploy more effective and event-adapted actions.

Objectives

We will address the following areas, among others:

  • What is mindfulness, full attention, and its benefits?

  • How to develop the “muscle of attention,” pausing the automatic pilot.

  • Body consciousness and its benefits.

  • Pain versus suffering.

  • Thoughts: Is everything they tell us true?

  • Fears: what’s behind.

  • Reduction of anxiety and tension.

  • Response versus reaction.

  • Emotional awareness and management.

  • Resilience

  • Conscious interaction.

  • Practices include body scanning, conscious eating, consistent movement in various positions, conscious walking, controlled breathing, and open meditation.
